This project is to design and test a prototype radio beacon working at 12.57 MHz. The autonomous beacon will be placed for a year in Antarctica, about halfway to south pole, at an existing magnetometer station. This will allow us to probe the ionospheric propagation path between it and our SuperDARN radar at SANAE, so we can: (1) Estimate the ionospheric electron density profile, (2) Estimate the total electron content along the path, and (3) Calibrate our angle-of-arrival interferometer.
