Project outline: Ionospheric scintillation affects the accuracy of satellite-assisted navigation. The objectives of the project is: 1. To evaluate and compare algorithms developed by SANSA and INGV for estimation of ionospheric scintillation from GNSS data over the South African region, using data from the Trignet network of GNSS receivers and dedicated ionospheric scintillation receivers. 2. To evaluate and compare algorithms for the real-time ingestion of GNSS data to do scintillation mapping and forecasting over Southern Africa. 3. To verify the accuracy of the scintillation maps produced by comparing scintillation proxies derived by various methods with measurements by means of dedicated ionospheric scintillation receivers in Southern Africa and Kenya.
